about

Instrumental album by Tom Espinola & Lorraine Duisit, released 1997.

The making of this recording pays a sort of a debt of gratitude to the traditional dance music of my native southern upbringing. My youthful winters were spent studying classical, jazz and rock music in a southern Virginia city. But my summers were spent in a sultry tobacco field region of eastern North Carolina, "studying" what was referred to by the locals as "country music." Friday and Saturday nights were considered all week long by the field-hands and were spent under a massive, ancient oak tree with instruments in hand and libation at foot. My memory of the faces of those gentlemen has lit the creative path for me and saved me from the long winding road. Since I cannot be them, I offer them my contribution to the ongoing living tradition. - Tom Espinola
